Ryanair want to take over Alitalia

Irish low cost airline Ryanair has made a non-binding offer to take over the Italian carrier Alitalia

In May, the Italian government announced that Italian airline Alitalia, plagued by a severe financial crisis, would receive a bridging loan from the state in the amount of 600 million euros. This amount, as emphasized, is intended to provide the national carrier with a function for the next half year.

Irish airlines Ryanair until 2 October this year have time to make a binding bid to purchase all or only a portion of Alitalia’s assets. “We will be offering 90 jetliners, including their pilots, deck crew, routes,” said Michael O’Leary to journalists during a press briefing in London.

Currently 49% Alitalia’s share belongs to the Etihad Airways line of the UAE. Italian company now brings about half a million euros of losses a day.
